Better informing to encourage best practices

At Nona Source, we are convinced that every sourcing decision can play a key role in reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry. Promoting responsible creation is part of our core values.

In a spirit of traceability and in response to the French government's environmental labeling initiative, we have partnered with La Belle Empreinte to help Nona Source develop its system for providing information on the environmental impact of its materials.

Behind the numbers

How is the impact defined?

We assess the footprint of our deadstock materials by comparing them to similar newly produced ones.

<0.1 kg of CO2 eq. vs 8.3 kg if newly produced

<0.1 L of consumed water vs 2,800 L if newly produced

Impact analysis methodology

For each type of material, we conduct a life cycle assessment.

This initial analysis focuses on the environmental footprint of the new material, from raw material extraction to the finished fabric or leather, in other words, from field to material.

  • Raw Materials

    their needs for production

  • Spinning

    manufacturing of yarns

  • Dyeing

    the textile coloration

  • Weaving

    weaving of yarns into fabrics

It takes into account the origin of the materials, the energy mixes of the countries involved, as well as the transport between each manufacturing step: extraction, spinning, weaving or knitting, dyeing, and finishing.

Minimizing impact

Textile production is responsible for 20% of global water pollution, due to dyes and finishing products. By using deadstock materials, we help avoid the need for new production, further reducing our environmental footprint.
