Better informing to encourage best practices
At Nona Source, we are convinced that every sourcing decision can play a key role in reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry.
Promoting responsible creation is part of our core values. In a spirit of traceability and in response to the French government's environmental labeling initiative, we have partnered with La Belle Empreinte to help Nona Source develop its system for providing information on the environmental impact of its materials.

Behind the numbers
How is the impact defined?
To evaluate the environmental footprint of our deadstock materials La Belle Empreinte, has defined its impact assessment method based on a direct comparison between a deadstock material and a stricly similar reference material, generated through new production.
Unlike deadstock, which already exists, the new product requires fresh production.
The environmental impact is measured in CO₂ emissions and blue water usage (based on material, spinning, dyeing, weaving, and manufacturing).
Impact Analysis Methodology
According to each material type, La Belle Empreinte conducts a life cycle analysis based on several key stages in textile production: raw material extraction, yarn weaving, fabric manufacturing, dyieng, and final assembly.
Each of these stages is assessed using environmental indicators most impacted by the textile industry—such as raw material cultivation and water consumption, through key metrics like blue water consumption, energy usage, transportation and greenhouse gas emissions.
The assessment method established by La Belle Empreinte, based on the analysis of impact factors, allows us to evaluate the environmental impact of our products using two key metrics: its carbon footprint in kg of CO₂ equivalent and its blue water consumption in liters.
This methodology ensures clarity and transparency, helping our customers better understand the impact of their fabric choices. By providing a clear comparison, we empower brands to make more responsible sourcing decisions, reducing waste and minimizing their impact.
