BETTER INFORMING TO ENCOURAGE BEST PRACTICES
At Nona Source, we are convinced that every sourcing decision can play a key role in reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry. Promoting responsible creation is part of our core values.
In a spirit of traceability and in response to the French government's environmental labeling initiative, we have partnered with La Belle Empreinte to help Nona Source develop its system for providing information on the environmental impact of its materials.
Up to 97% less emissions
and thousands of liters of water saved.
Behind the numbers
How is the impact defined?
We assess the footprint of our deadstock materials by comparing them to similar newly produced ones.
For each type of material, we conduct a life cycle assessment
This initial analysis focuses on the environmental footprint of the new material, from raw material extraction to the finished fabric or leather, in other words, from field to material.
It takes into account the origin of the materials, the energy mixes of the countries involved, as well as the transport between each manufacturing step: extraction, spinning, weaving or knitting, dyeing, and finishing.
We then carry out a second calculation, specific to our activity:
the environmental footprint associated with bringing deadstock materials back into circulation.
This includes transport from the Maison’s warehouse to our own warehouse near Tours, as well as the logistical operations required to give the materials a second life.
Thanks to the methodology co-developed with La Belle Empreinte, we measure these two footprints using two main indicators:
• carbon footprint (expressed in kg of CO₂),
• blue water consumption (in liters).
The calculations are based on recognized databases, including ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition) for textiles, and the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) database for leather.
